In the 15th century, the area that is now Keukenhof served as an estate with a herb garden for the castle kitchen. In 1857, the estate near Amsterdam was transformed into a palace garden by landscape architect Jan David Zocher and opened for flower shows in 1949. Since 1959 flower lovers of all kinds and holidaymakers in Holland can marvel at the park.
