Royal Albert Dock
The Royal Albert Dock is a complex of dock buildings and warehouses. The first port building in the UK opened in 1846 and was built of stone, bricks and cast iron. In contrast to wooden structure, this was the first non-flammable system of warehouses in the world.
It is still breaking records today as, despite damage sustained during World WWar II, the dock re-opened in 1984 and is part of the largest collection of Grade I listed buildings in Great Britain. The buildings currently house a range of tourist attractions and restaurants.
